Deep Energy Retrofits – are they worth it?

In the past couple of years, we have completed several deep energy retrofits, where we are stripping back the exterior to the sheathing, installing a new air barrier, new windows and doors, exterior insulation and siding. We also address any ventilation and heating upgrades. Our latest project featured here is a great example. We added 3″ of exterior insulation on the walls, topped up the attic space, new triple glazed windows and new heat pump and HRV. The added benefit here is also a much more fire proof exterior, which made this a multi problem solving solution well worth the effort when combined with the energy savings, and improved indoor air quality.

The owner wanted to use weathered steel for the siding, which is a corrugated metal siding that will patina over time, and give it a modern yet rustic look.
